I was looking for the answer to a grammatical question when I happened upon this essay.  Because I work in IT and am looking at some of the other byproducts of email (unmanaged corporate records, growth of electronic storage), I read about those issues related to the use of technology frequently.  You have also raised a valuable point....that we cannot learn to communicate or be a friend without working at it.  Of course, those who have many friends know this, but I agree that our young people may not be learning this at home

I believe that the unintended consequences of the lack of this skill can be much more damaging to our world than merely isolation.

I plan to tune in for more of what you have to say.
